West Park Long-Term Ventilation Team Secures Permanent Funding
The Provincial Long-Term Ventilation Strategy Team at West Park has reached a significant milestone by securing permanent funding from the Ministry of Health. This achievement promises to enhance patient flow from intensive care units, reduce hospitalizations, and improve the quality of life for patients dependent on ventilators.
As the designated Provincial Centre of Excellence for Long-Term Ventilation (LTV) since 2007, West Park was to take the lead in overseeing the Provincial LTV Strategy in 2021. The LTV team at West Park, in collaboration with Critical Care Services Ontario and three other provincial LTV hospitals – London Health Sciences, The Ottawa Hospital, and Michael Garron Hospital – played a pivotal role in establishing a robust provincial care model.
Together with its partners, the LTV team’s achievements include the creation of a provincial hub-and-spoke structure with four hubs and 100 spoke providers, the creation of an online LTV portal for patients, families and healthcare professionals, and the development of a provincial framework for a standardized model of care that ensures equitable access to sustainable LTV services closer to home.
The West Park LTV team, Jan Walker, VP of Strategy & Innovation, Dr Roger Goldstein, Director, Respiratory Medicine, Sally McMackin, Program Director, Provincial LTV Program, Raj Kohli, Clinical Manager, LTV Program, and Arthur Sowinski, Data Specialist, PLTVS, exemplifies dedication to improving the quality of life for LTV patients and their families.
