UHN’s Medical Imaging team now providing imaging services at West Park
On April 1, 2025, UHN’s Medical Imaging team began providing imaging services at West Park Healthcare Centre, marking a major milestone in the integration process.
Prior to this, imaging services at West Park were provided under contracts with Humber River Hospital and a private provider. As those agreements neared their end, UHN leaders made the decision to bring these services in-house. This move supports a consistent, integrated approach to medical imaging across the organization and enhances the quality and continuity of care.
Planning for this transition began in August 2024, when cross-functional teams from West Park, UHN’s Medical Imaging department, Digital, Medical Engineering, Radiation Safety, Billing, and others first came together. They focused on understanding the processes and standards at West Park, and developing a future-state plan designed to minimize service disruptions while ensuring high-quality, efficient care for patients.
UHN Technologists and Sonographers now rotate through West Park to perform X-ray and ultrasound exams, while Biomedical Engineering handles equipment maintenance. The Radiation Safety Office oversees radiation protection, and the Digital team that supports JDMI ensures the transfer of images to UHN’s Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS). Exam reports are provided by JDMI radiologists.
With services now delivered by UHN teams, patients benefit from streamlined processes and a unified standard of care in the Kress Family Diagnostic Centre.
